I’ve recently produced several videos providing overviews of private and independent schools in Canada. These videos, based on book-length Feature Reviews, explore the distinct offerings and educational approaches of different institutions, helping families better understand their options. I’m posting them here to track some of the work I’ve been doing at Our Kids Media. The first of these videos I’m posting here is about Hillfield Strathallan College.
Hillfield Strathallan College (HSC) is one of Canada’s largest independent, co-ed schools, serving students from 18 months to 18 years old. HSC is divided into four schools: a Montessori School and Junior School (Grades 1-4), a Middle School (Grades 5-8), and a Senior School (Grades 9-12). The school emphasizes personalized education, academic rigor, and hands-on learning.
Students in the Montessori and Junior Schools follow distinct curriculums before merging in Middle School, where project-based learning and a strong community ethos take center stage. In Senior School, students access over 130 courses, including Advanced Placement options, and are encouraged to explore personal interests through electives and co-curriculars.
HSC aims to nurture a sense of belonging, where students feel supported, valued, and connected to both peers and staff. Leadership development, outdoor education, and community service are integral, and the college offers diverse opportunities in arts, sports, and technology. HSC is committed to innovation and diversity, teaching students to think critically and inclusively. The college’s nurturing environment, academic excellence, and strong community spirit make it a place where students thrive and alumni return, either as staff or parents.
